Hi, I’m Jane Fuller and this is my husband, Jim. We’ve been a client of Foster Denovo for seven years, and we’re looked after by Adam Rideout.

We first looked for a financial planner because we had been slightly negligent in looking after our own finances. We’d had our head in the sand raising a family, and we got to the point of feeling concerned that our future finances weren’t really understood. We didn’t understand what a healthy retirement plan looked like, and we knew we needed some help.
We heard about Foster Denovo through a former colleague of mine who I trust, who’s financially prudent, and was just a bit different in his approach to life after 50. We were just chatting about finances generally, and he said, “I’ve got a really good financial planner. His name’s Adam.” and we went from there.

Over the years, Adam has been able to help us with understanding the value of our pensions, those which needed reorganising, those which should be left alone because they were perfectly valid, and also understanding what the value of those pensions would be at the right points in our journey towards retirement. On top of that, he’s given us some really helpful, tax-efficient saving strategies and advice around our mortgage and we did use the Foster Denovo mortgage service for remortgaging. He has helped us to understand some of the wider implications of long-term care from a finance standpoint, and he helped us with some of our plans around gifting to our three children.

Since working with Adam, I feel much more secure in my financial future, and we as a couple feel much more confident talking about finances for the future and making financial plans. We work much better as a team together because both of us feel happier and more confident in our finances, so we feel we’re in a good position to discuss them and make plans for the future.

The best piece of advice Adam has given us, has been to remember the fact that this is our plan, and therefore, if we want to flex that plan, we can. At one point, he said, “The best decision would be to halve your mortgage by using some of your savings and look at what the market would do to pay that back quicker than you can pay that mortgage off.” And he was right; we got 75% of that investment back within 12 months. We would never have had that if we would have carried on paying the mortgage same way.
